Self-Love vs. Self-Awareness

Self-love can be both good and bad. Some people take self-love to the extreme. It can be a moral flaw and show true arrogance and selfishness. However, in the mid-1950’s psychologist and social philosopher Erich Fromm said that self-love was different from being egocentric, and instead means to care about and take responsibility for yourself.

It’s no doubt that Fromm’s description of self-love is important. However, I believe self-awareness to be equally as important. Self-awareness can be described as having a clear perception of your personality, emotions, beliefs, strengths and weaknesses. Self-awareness is extremely useful as it allows you to see how other people perceive you.

Self-awareness contributes to Emotional Intelligence as it allows you to be aware of your emotions and change them. This can greatly help you succeed in your life. It can be achieved by focusing on your behavior and personality. Your behavior and personality are huge contributors to whether or not you’ll succeed.

Both of these are self-taught skills, nobody can teach them to you. If you manage to achieve the right kind of self-love and master self-awareness you have a great base to build upon and achieve great things in whatever it is you choose to do.

What do you think?
